Day 1
I was extremely nervous upon my arrival at the Auburn Journalism workshop, seeing as I was one of the first to arrive. I couldn't really hold this against my parents because they had a six hour haul back to Gastonia, NC, so I grabbed my bags and joined my parents up the walkway to the dorms we would be housed in for the week. I was reassured by the polite smiles and not-so-awkward-small-talk that the week would be bearable at the least. After retrieving my name tag, making my make-shift bed, and bidding farewell to my beloved parents, I readied myself to harness my best people skills and attempt to make friends.
I glanced to desk adjacent to mine in the dorm room to see the name tag of Maggie Benton. Although Maggie was no where to be found, (trust me, I looked allllll around the hall out the window) I carefully unpacked a few of my belongings and joined the two girls next door from Chattanooga Tennessee. Once again my nerves and clammy hands were eased by the friendly conversation. We were accompanied by many anxious girls from the hall and congregated in waiting of ten 'til six, when we would all come together to walk to the Arboretum. As time crept on, my roommate's whereabouts remained unknown.
I walked in a pack of girls through the scenic route to Auburn's Arboretum. I have visited a few colleges through the years, but the beauty of Auburn and the big brick buildings triumphed over each one. We arrived in a sort of park area and then to a shelter with food set out for dinner. I was immediately embarrassed once Dr. Adams asked the group, "So who's the vegetarian?!" and I raised my hand shuffled over to her to graciously accept my boxed salad. After dinner we interviewed one other participant and reported 3 interesting facts about them to the group. After brief introductions we walked back to the dorms to socialize and then turn in for the night. I'm so glad I came and am glad I had nothing to be nervous about!!

Day 2
Today I learned about Photography from Andrew Goetz, a photographer whose work has appeared in Time, Newsweek, USA Today, The New York Times, Fortune, and Sports Illustrated. He taught us the proper way to handle a camera and the functions of the Nikon D40 we checked out for the week. We later discussed newswriting basics and journalistic interview techniques. He has written for various newspapers before joining the Auburn family. We later heard from Dr. Wendy Reed and Mike Szvetitz in Seminars. We ended the day with a visit at with the Auburn Plainsmen staff.

Day 3
Today after brief morning sickness I went to the lab again with Andrew Goetz to learn the ins and outs photoshop. We later heard from Nan Fairley on the fundamentals of newswriting. After a tour of the Eagle Eye studio we worked on a photostory and heard from Tamika Bickham, a broadcast journalist working in Montgomery. We continued to work on our news stories, photos, and video packages after dinner.

We later went on a campus tour where we learned about various traditions and the history of Auburn. We sat in a mock press conference with two athletes from Auburn, one of which is going to the Olympics in London for swimming. We continued to work on our video packages and our column.
